Legion salutes vets for service

By STEVE PETERSON - speterson@nwnewsgroup.com

FOX LAKE – Joe Frederick and Greg Borg are proud of their 20-year Navy careers.
They represented Round Lake Post 1170 at the Fox Lake American Legion 703 Veterans Day service.
“I served from 1961 to 1981. I used it to get an education,” Borg said.
Fox Lake American Legion Post 703 Commander Ray Ponroznik served in the Navy in Vietnam.
“I served for 14 and a half months as a Seabee, working as a carpenter, building things. I remember the good times,” he said.

Celebrating in style

What started with 13 veterans gathering on Nov. 10, 1983, at Hoff’s Kitchen in Grayslake, now is a must for area Marines.
The Tom Grosvenor Memorial Marine Corps Birthday Breakfast marked its 24th year and the 232nd birthday of the Corps.
George Everritt, of Round Lake Beach, enlisted in 1956.
“Marines can get along because they learned self-discipline … I learned all that I needed to know in kindergarten and the Marines.”
